SPECIAL EVENT

Congregation Ohr Tzafon and JCCSLO  invite you to a screening of the film

"Praying In Her Own Voice"

Sunday, January 31, 3-5 PM at Congregation Ohr Tzafon

Guests and community members are welcome.

“Praying in Her Own Voice” documents the courageous struggle of the famed “Women of the Wall” movement. This group has spearheaded the battle for female equality in the religious world. Their main focus has been on the Wailing Wall - the holiest site for Jews where women are not allowed to gather and pray. For the past decade they have challenged the government of Israel by raising  media attention through colorful protests and by their unstoppable legal battle – which has ended several times at the Israeli Supreme Court.
Rabbi Debbie Israel appeared in the film, as well as interviewed and participated with the Women of the Wall. She will lead us in a discussion following the screening.

Rabbi Israel will be visiting Atascadero from Congregation Emeth in Morgan Hill.
The film includes interviews with some of the most influential women Rabbis in the US, and its topic is very relevant to today.

The New York Times recently reported on the Women of the Wall movement (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/22/world/middleeast/22jerusalem.html?_r=1&hpw), and the film has been shown in venues internationally.
