ECHO - El Camino Homeless Organization

It is a sacred opportunity, a mitzvah,  to work with other service and faith based organizations in serving our community. We host a meal with with ECHO the first Wednesday of each month and we work in teams of 5 or 6 to provide fruit, salad, a main course, and dessert for North County families in need. For more information or to become a team member, please call 466-0329.

SLO Food Bank and MAZON

Founded in 1985, MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger is the only national Jewish nonprofit organization exclusively dedicated to preventing and alleviating hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds.    We donate to MAZON annually at the High Holy Days and Passover.   We hold a canned food drive annually, and collect monetary donations throughout the year, to support the SLO Food Bank Coalition locally.  For more information on MAZON, click here.   For more information on SLO Food Bank Coalition, click here.

B'nei Mitzvah and General Projects

These are some of the recent social action projects we have participated in:

Get on the Bus
-- We joined with Atascadero United Church of Christ and provided travel gift bags for children visiting their incarcerated parents at California Men's Colony.  click for information .

Beanies for Baghdad -- We collected Beanie Babies, which are little stuffed animals. They were sent to soldiers in Iraq to be given to the local children, as bridge for communication and reconciliation. http://www.beaniesforbaghdad.com/

As part of our B'nei Mitzvah curriculum, our students are taught the Jewish value of tzedakah and tikkun olam - acts of kindness and justice,  in order to bring about healing in our world. The student is responsible for choosing a project, educating the congregation and raising money to support their cause. Recent projects chosen have been Heifer International, Dodgers Dream Foundation, North County Animal Shelter, Operation Shoe Box, Alzheimer's Walk  and more.
