SLO4Home is the current focus project of the Social Action Committee.
SLO4Home is a broad coalition of religious organizations, veteran, and active duty military members, and community activists who are helping Afghan refugees establish new lives and livelihoods on the Central Coast.
COT has joined in supporting the work of this important non-profit organization.
You can be a lifeline for refugee families in need. In the coming months and years the influx of refugees will continue to play a role in our communities across the United States. These families have urgent and varied needs, many having left vibrant lives with only what they could carry. SLO4Home is working to ensure that San Luis Obispo County will be a welcoming and supportive new home for these families. We expect to welcome our first family in April!
This work needs the help of many hands. Our areas of focus include housing, job assistance, education, health, transportation, culture and hospitality. Currently the greatest need is for independent housing and household furniture in good condition. Lists are available below and will be updated as often as possible.
If you have items you would like to donate, or if you would like to get involved in any other way, please contact socialaction@congregationohrtzafon.org
Of course, monetary donations are also needed and may be made at https://www.slo4home.org/

We have great news -- the arrival of our first family. This is a family of 3 with an almost 3-year-old daughter. They were warmly greeted at the airport by a contingent from SLO4Home. They are both English speakers and are being housed in a private home. Our various committees will begin work to find long-term housing, employment, educational opportunities, transportation and healthcare. We are exploring the possibility of resettling more members of their family. In addition, we are working towards a goal of welcoming a new family every 4-6 weeks.
